Rein in your data with intranet development

A better intranet is something that doesn’t feature on a lot of companies’ radars – or if it does, it gets neglected in favour of a focus on web marketing and so on. But while you are reaching out to new customers, it’s worth taking a moment to improve your in-house data handling too, to make sure your strategy is a truly joined-up one. In this age of ‘Big Data’ it is particularly important to keep on top of everything as your customer base grows, especially if you are expanding internationally thanks to the internet.
A recent Gartner report predicts that a quarter of companies will have appointed a Chief Data Officer by 2017, and this is an indication of how many firms are taking this issue seriously – and of the three in four that could be better prepared. Unsurprisingly, industries with tighter regulation, like finance and insurance, are predicted to have double the proportion of CDOs compared with unregulated sectors.
However, across the board, companies could be doing more to share information generated by their different departments, rather than leaving it in separate databases throughout the office with a stronger intranet, built around collaborative working and simpler file and data sharing, you can make sure your in-house information is fully ‘joined up’, to complement any outward online strategy you might be running at the same time.
